Airport Authority fitness guru Marci leads fellow employees in exercises at the grand opening ceremony for Jamba Juice located post-security in Terminal 2 West at San Diego International Airport last month.
Ready to move on from the winter blahs to the sunny days San Diego is famous for? We’re about to ‘spring forward,’ with beach days on their way. Is that motivation enough to be in shape?
Here at the Airport Authority, it’s easy for employees to keep up with fitness commitments and turn them into some tangible benefits — including more than just increased energy and a leaner body! At every monthly all-employee “SANformation” meeting, the ever-peppy Marci gets staff out of their seats and on their feet to work in a few stretches. The infamous “Cobra” routine she leads involves wrapping one’s arms in front and holding the stretch to look like the hooded snake.
But employees can keep in shape all year round — not just at the monthly meetings … and not just when resolution time is in vogue. Under the Airport Authority’s Fitness Focus Program, employees can participate in any number of self-paced activities on their own time, earning a credit for every 30 minutes of continuous activity. Employees are even allowed to break it up into half-credits of 15 minutes if that’s all the time one has to spare. Employees may “cash in” their credits for four levels of gift certificate awards.
So it really does PAY to pound the pavement and work up a sweat! And to help keep track of all those activities, all one has to do is pick up a spiral-bound activity booklet (with monthly calendars and even healthy recipes) available from fitness guru Marci in Human Resources.
So get out your sneakers and get to work … you have nothing to lose but extra pounds, and everything to gain in rewards for a healthy lifestyle!
So what are you doing to rack up those fitness focus points? Click the comments link below to share what activities you’re engaged in to earn those points.

In addition to regular activies, like walking during lunch, I’ve been getting extra fitness time in on my Nintendo Wii! Yoga, boxing, step aerobics, dancing….even hula hooping! I know several other employees who have been enjoying their interactive Wii games too. We should have an employee Wii challenge someday. Great topic, Ed!
